Who loves a train ride?
Last summer I took a roadtrip with my sister and niece to Durango to see my dad. He had surprised us with a train ride on the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. My niece was very excited...as was I! The last time I had been on the DSNG train was at the young age of 12. Twenty-six years later, I can definitely say I appreciated it more the second time around, taking in the beautiful mountain scenery that surrounded us on both sides, as we slowly passed sunlit ponds, chipmunks, deer, rolling rivers, and wildflowers of all sorts. When I was 12, the highlight was spotting a bald man wearing a soot hat, at the end of our ride, a precaution to anyone wanting to ride in the outdoor car, soot sticks to everything! My dad had gotten us a one way ticket and met us for lunch in Silverton, which was a good idea, considering the ride up took about 3.5 hours. My nieces attention span was wearing a little thin at that point, so after lunch and some strolling through town we headed back to Durango by car. We all loved the train as it gave us all time to just sit back, relax & enjoy the ride. What do you love about trains? What has been one of your favorite train rides? We'd love to know!
