YAY! FALL! by Carl
As of last week, my favorite season arrived. It's been showing up for several days now in the high country as my daughter and I found out last weekend on a father daughter camping trip to Turquoise Lake near Leadville, CO. Even as I write this I get chills for the beauty and majesty the Rockies morph into after a few frosty nights. Gold canopied mountain roads have me driving at a top speed of around 30mph as I describe the finer points of what a "Sunday Driver" is to my eight year old. I'm reminded of days 35 years prior, riding with my dad again at a top speed of around 30 mph in our 1949 GMC pickup. In the case of my memory, aspens give way to maples, and bittersweet lined fence rows are backdropped by a blur of ripened corn fields. I can only hope that 35 or so autumns from now, my girl will be slowly navigating a similar landscape she loves and passing along the finer points of a Sunday driver.
